Classes are offered Monday through Friday, September through May.

PLEASE NOTE: Class size is 32 students, if you have more than 32 you will need to choose multiple times.

Denver Zoo offers a wide range of individual classes for school groups. In our facilitated classes, students meet animal guests in our Zoo classrooms, explore key concepts in numerous academic subjects, and are empowered to become scientists as they observe, question and seek answers.  Classes support relevant Colorado Academic Standards.

Pre-K - Kindergarten

Animal Senses (NOT offered for 2020 programs) - Discover how senses help animals to survive and meet their needs. Compare human senses to those of animals.

Creature Feature - With very special animal guests, let s start learning about classification in this 30 minute program. What makes animal groups so special, whether they re amphibians, birds, invertebrates, mammals, or reptiles?

1st - 3rd Grade Classes

Animal Academy - In Animal Academy programs, concepts such as adaptations, ecosystems and life cycles come alive as recruits utilize the Zoo s animal ambassadors to investigate these science topics. Your scientists-in-training will receive a special mission and explore the Zoo alongside their Academy instructor, applying critical thinking and science skills while working toward their spots and stripes badge.

3rd - 5th Grade School Programs

Students are immersed in Denver Zoo's living classroom as they explore faraway animals, cultures and ecosystems through the lens of Toyota Elephant Passage. Zoo educators lead students on a trek through the exhibit, incorporating hands-on inquiry, up-close animal observations, and guided discovery that supports the development of science skills.

3rd - 4th Grade Classes

Animals around the World - Journey through tropical Asia as you discover how animals influence culture and contribute to a region s uniqueness.

Supports CAS Third Grade Social Studies 2.2

4th - 5th Grade Classes

A Trek through the Tropics - Investigate how Asian tropical ecosystems are similar to and different from other ecosystems around the world, including those in Colorado.

Denver Zoo Secret Science Days

School Groups: Grades K-5th

Did you know that everything we do at the zoo to care for our animals involves science? Uncover the secret science animal care professionals use every day as they care for our 4,000 wild residents!

Teacher's spark your student’s interest in science as you explore real world animal care challenges in these special discovery days at Denver Zoo. Secret Science Day maps lead students throughout the zoo to gain an insider view into ways that keepers, veterinarians, nutritionists, trainers and exhibit designers meet the challenges of caring for our wild family.

Zoo staff and volunteers will help your students uncover the inside workings of Denver Zoo, encourage them to make observations at exhibits, discuss ideas with their peers, and share what they’ve learned. The more they engage, the more they discover – students who interact with Secret Science Day experts receive tips on where to see exciting shows and demonstrations, interact with keepers and vets, and meet live animals up close!

Zoo Assemblies - 6th - 12th Grades

Students meet flighted birds, gregarious mammals, and impressive reptiles, as well as the keepers and trainers that care for them at the Zoo.

  • Ideal for larger groups.
  • Check dates for an appropriate assembly experience for your grade.
  • Each assembly can accommodate up to 150 students..
  • Approximately 45 minutes in length.
  • Assemblies are offered only on select dates and begin at 10am or 11:30am each of those days.

Important Information:

  • Due to limited space available, only 1 adult (teacher/chaperone) per 5 students will be allowed into the program. Additional discounted chaperone tickets may be purchased the day of the program for those who would like still join their student at the zoo before or after the scheduled assembly.
  • Siblings and strollers will not be allowed into the assembly due limited space.
