Zookeeper Experience

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a zookeeper? During this Zoo Keeper Experience, participants will spend a morning with a zookeeper from our education animal division and learn what it takes to work in an animal care career. During the experience, participants will try their hand at zookeeper responsibilities by participating in two or more of the following activities:

  • Preparing animal diets
  • Helping to weigh and care for animals
  • Taking part in animal training
  • Assisting with animal demonstrations or shows
  • And of course, everyone’s favorite - cleaning!

  • Animal lovers ages 9-18 with a passion to learn about careers working with animals. This is your chance to delve right in and see what a Zookeeper’s day is really like!

  • Closed-toed shoes, a comfortable shirt, and pants or shorts. Dress for the weather! Portions of our program may be held outside even in inclement weather.
  • Please wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, as being a zookeeper can get messy and there is a lot of cleaning.

  • A water bottle, your confirmation sheet and your camera (photo opportunities will be provided).
  • Please note: The focus of the program is an in-depth exploration of a zookeeper’s job; limited direct contact with live animals will be involved.
