Summer Safari: Early Care

Early Care (7:30am-9:00am)

Early Care is every weekday morning your child is in camp. Early Care is between 7:30am-9:00am in the Gates Conservation Education Center at the Zoo.

Please remember to choose the same week for Early Care as your camp week.

Summer Safari: Late Care

Late Care (4:00pm-5:00pm)

Late Care is every weekday afternoon your child is in camp. Late Care is between 4:00pm-5:00pm in the Gates Education Center at the Zoo.

Zookeeper Experience

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a zookeeper? During this Zoo Keeper Experience, participants will spend a morning with a zookeeper from our education animal division and learn what it takes to work in an animal care career. During the experience, participants will try their hand at zookeeper responsibilities by participating in two or more of the following activities:

  • Preparing animal diets
  • Helping to weigh and care for animals
  • Taking part in animal training
  • Assisting with animal demonstrations or shows
  • And of course, everyone’s favorite - cleaning!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

WHO:

  • Animal lovers ages 9-18 with a passion to learn about careers working with animals. This is your chance to delve right in and see what a Zookeeper’s day is really like!

WHAT TO WEAR

  • Closed-toed shoes, a comfortable shirt, and pants or shorts. Dress for the weather! Portions of our program may be held outside even in inclement weather.
  • Please wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, as being a zookeeper can get messy and there is a lot of cleaning.

WHAT TO BRING

  • A water bottle, your confirmation sheet and your camera (photo opportunities will be provided).
  • Please note: The focus of the program is an in-depth exploration of a zookeeper’s job; limited direct contact with live animals will be involved.

CANCELLATION FEES

  • A cancellation fee of 50% will be charged for cancelling with less than two weeks notice. A cancellation fee of 100% will be charged for a missed program.

Children being registered for this class must be potty-trained, at least 4 years old by the first day of camp, and entering PreK or Kindergarten in the Fall of 2019.

Meet some amazing animals at Denver Zoo and explore what they need in order to survive. How are these the same or different from what you need? Put what you learn into action as you help care for animal homes around you!

Connect with the joys of childhood and nature in Denver Zoo's first fully-based nature play camp. This unique opportunity will encourage campers to literally dig into the world around them, engage their sense of wonder and discovery, and develop connections to animals and the natural world. Zoo Engineers: Every animal needs a habitat. Take a closer look at the Zoo homes of some of our favorite animal residents to discover how their spaces give them each what they need. If you built a Zoo, what would your animal homes look like? We'll still need to ensure the animals get everything they need, so put on your zoo engineer hat if you're up to the challenge!
