Animal Ambassador Encounter - Gates Animal Housing

This encounter is open to guests of all ages.

Come face-to-face with animals feathery, furry, scaley, and slimey as you meet the Zoo's most diverse group of animals under one roof. Learn from the keepers about the unique care needed for such a wide array of animal species, as well as the important role that the ambassador animals play at Denver Zoo and beyond. You might chat with a parrot, be tickled by a tamandua, or touch a turtle (or two)! It s sure to be a wild time! 

  • Guests will visit Gates Animal Housing.
  • Program registration does not include admission to Denver Zoo-admission tickets must be purchased separately.

Restrictions:

  • This encounter is open to guests of all ages.
  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying participant that is 16 years of age or older.
  • Program registration does not include admission to Denver Zoo- admission tickets must be purchased separately.

Penguin Encounter

This adventure is for guests 8 years of age and older.

Explore Denver Zoo like never before! The Penguin Encounter is a 60 minute guided tour providing guests with an intimate look at how Denver Zoo cares for these charismatic creatures and how to protect them in the wild. The encounter includes a guided tour through Denver Zoo's Bird World exhibit, behind the scenes access and an up-close encounter with one of the zoo's African Penguins.

  • Program registration does not include admission to Denver Zoo-admission tickets must be purchased seperately.

Sea Lion Encounter

This adventure is for guests 8 years of age and older.

Things are about to get fishy! Have an up-close encounter with Denver Zoo s fun flippered friends, the sea lions. During up-close encounters with sea lions and intimate conversations with animal care staff, watch as their personalities overshadow their fishy breath and find a way in to your heart.

Tiger Encounter

This adventure is for guests 12 years of age or older.

Experience The Edge Through the Eyes of a Tiger! This tour will take you behind the scenes at The Edge, Denver Zoo's Amur tiger exhibit. Participants will get an up close view of a training session with one of The Edge's resident tigers and learn from animal care experts about what they do every day to ensure that these cats receive the best care.  You ll be in awe of the amazing relationship animal care staff have with these 400 pound furry felines!

*Please note that because of safety regulations, guests will not receive direct contact with the tigers, but rather will get a closer look than public perspective allows with exclusive access and interactions.

Tropical Discovery Encounter

This adventure is for guests 5 years of age or older.

For lovers of reptiles, frogs and fish! Take a one of a kind look into Tropical Discovery, home to all things slithery, slimy, and scaly. You'll be transported into an exotic rainforest habitat that is home to over 300 species and visit two different behind the scenes areas; a face to face visit with the Komodo dragons, and a second area that is the keepers choice! It may be a bird's eye look into our 16,000 gal. Pacific Reef habitat or meeting a frog thought to be extinct in the wild, just to name a few. Each experience is different, so an adventurous attitude is recommended!

Title: Graduate Reserch - Field Methods

Term: Spring 2018

In Class days: February 24th & April 7th

9:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.

Course Description: This course provides students with an overview of biological and social field based research conducted in zoological, reserve, aquaria and other ex situ settings as well as in situ environments.

Students will gain proficiency in applying field methods to ecological questions and conservation practice and explore the multi-disciplinary nature of science, and hands-on conservation research. A premise of this course is that field methods are not only essential for ecological research, they can serve as the basis for participatory education, public engagement in science, and community-based environmental stewardship.

Field methods point sampling, capture/recapture, quadrat studies, pitfall traps, line transects, ethology, and others--are fundamental tools that allow investigators of all backgrounds to generate knowledge needed to become better informed environmental citizens.

Students will become familiar with a range of field methods and contribute to on-going research in their communities.

Child Only Bunk - I Love the Zoo

Children are invited to celebrate Valentine's Day with a sleepover at a Denver Zoo Bunk with the Beasts adventure! From peacocks to primates and polar bears to pachyderms, participants will visit some of the zoo's most beloved animals while their parents enjoy a night out! Kids will make a special valentine for a zoo critter, and have fun at this special kids-only sleepover in Denver Zoo s onsite Gates Education Center. The evening Includes pizza dinner, an evening snack and full breakfast.

  • Children must be 5+ to attend bunk
  • This bunk includes, dinner, snack and breakfast.
  • Registered participants are free to explore the zoo on your own after the Bunk ends.

They will explore Zoo Lights, and celebrate the new year in a safe and fun environment, while parents get a night out on the town!
